the total number of people playing CS at a particular moment is more than the number of people playing Q3 and UT combined (Q3 and UT fans will surely disagree). And now, Valve (the developer of the original HL) is currently developing a new stand-alone expansion Condition Zero, a healthy single player campaign for people cursed with high ping rates.
Valve has used the original HL engine with a few modifications and the brilliant AI programming and has added a few newer weapons to modify the original arsenal. Here are a few of them.
FAMAS- A French rifle available to only the counter-terrorists. This baby boasts of great accuracy and firing rate.
GALIL- An Israeli rifle for the terrorists. This is a pretty expensive rifle so think twice before buying it.
M60 E3- A new addition to the machine gun group.
LAW Rocket Launcher- At last CS gets a rocket launcher (a pretty daring move).
Apart from these stuff like Molotov Cocktails (remember Max Payne) will also be making their debut in Condition Zero.
The single player missions will be based on the original CS gameplay modes (hostage rescue, bomb defusal, VIP assassination, etc.) and presented as a series of international incidents. In all you'll be playing in some 16 odd missions around the globe playing as whichever counter-terrorist organization - be it the familiar old Navy SEALS or British SAS, or new Russian Spetznaz. Valve is also planning to include a co-operative play, which is on the top of their wish list at the moment.
At the present moment fans can only sit and wait for Condition Zero, which is releasing by spring 2003. Only time will tell how good it will be.
