Doom 3 Preview

DOOM III is undoubtedly the most anticipated game of 2003. When first time the DOOM III- The Legacy movie was screened at E3 last year, it attracted more attention than most other games. We really don't know what ID software has in store for us but it sure is gonna kick ass.

Dubed as one of the scariest game to be released this year DOOM III will really spoil your pants.

To start with DOOM III is not at all like any other first person shooter. The developers say that the primary objective of the game design is to scare people like hell and to accomplish this task they are setting up scarier plots and atmosphere, which will take a back seat to the action in the overall game design. While the developers have refused to disclose the plot, they have confirmed that the game is simply a sequel to the original doom and will return with many of the original weapons and enemies.

For this game ID has developed an entirely new engine, which is till date the most impressive of all gaming engines ever made. Some of the features of this engine include dynamic lighting- that will react to every object in the game in an appropriate way and bump-mapping textures. The models are so well detailed that you can observe even the pores on ones skin. Also the physics collision system is realistic. Things now will fall off the shelves as they should.

There have been a quite few rumors in the air that someone from NIN will do the background music for DOOM III and ID has now confirmed that indeed Trent Reznor will be doing the background score for DOOM III. Apart from this it will have full support for Dolby 5.1 surround sound. As Reznor in an interview said "we want to get inside your head and make it an unpleasant place to be."

Its now really hard to tell what kind of a machine will one need to play this game but ID confirmed that machines fast enough will be able to run the game. Now as the game is edging towards its completion ID has also quoted that the game is currently developed only for the PC. From the screenshots it seems that ID is on the verge of creating another memorable classic. Lets hope the demo releases soon enough and gamers get the first look at what is the most anticipated game of this year.
