Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack, The Frozen Throne are RTS titles on the lines of Age of Mythology. WIII: Reign of Chaos features 4 unique races; Humans, Orcs, Night Elves & the Undead Army, each with their own distinctive units, magical abilities, and weapons of war. This is all brought to life with Blizzard's own 3D engine, which offers support for multiple resolutions and customizable detail settings. After the breath-taking opening movie, you have the choice to begin the human campaign immediately or play a small two mission prologue that makes you familiar with the World of Warcraft. In the prologue you are first introduced to the latest addition to the Warcraft series - the Hero. Heroes add a slight role playing element to Warcraft as they can collect items, books, potions and other magic objects. Your hero can gain experience and become more powerful over time. In these two missions you will learn basic movement & combat, base building and resource gathering. Once you finish the prologue, you move on to perhaps the weakest portion of the game - the human campaign, which only becomes interesting about halfway through. Thankfully, the rest of the campaigns are nothing short of brilliant featuring levels with varied objectives and gameplay. All the warring races are evenly balanced which means victory requires tactical decisions. Great effort has been put into the spells, attacks, and special abilities of not only the heroes, but the individual units as well. WIII is easily one of the best games out there, thanks to its epic story, great graphics and brilliant sound.


The Frozen Throne is the expansion pack for WIII: Reign of Chaos. It adds tons of new units, a new race and new single player campaigns. You can play a separate story involving the Orcs or dive right into the main story, where you first get to play as the Night Elves and then move on to the to play as the Alliance & the Undead. As in the original, the missions are varied and interesting. In fact, this expansion pack has 26 missions and offers more gameplay than most FULL games!
As with all Blizzard titles, the multiplayer is exceptional. You can connect via LAN or Battle.net which is a free service available to all WIII owners. The game-play online is balanced, with no one race being more powerful than the other. This is truly a game which has great single and multiplayer options. Adding to the options is the map and mission editor which allows you to create whole new levels. There are tons of these free levels available on the net. Blizzard have a reputation for excellence and it shows in every single game they create. WIII is no different. It’s not just a game, it’s an experience. If you own Warcraft III, get the expansion. If you don’t own WIII, get them both now. You’ll never regret it!
