Synopsis: Somehow the earth's inner core has stopped rotating, stopped rotating, inducing the planet's magnetic field to deteriorate. life around the globe begins to change dramatically.

Pacemakers suddenly quit, causing scores of people to drop dead in Boston. Pigeons lose the ability to navigate, creating panic in London's Trafalgar Square.

And in Rome, as thousands of tourists watch helplessly, an electrical superstorm reduces the ancient Colosseum to rubble.

To resolve the crisis the U.S. government secretly assembles a team of "terranauts" Swank and Greenwood and brainy scientists including geophysicist professor Aaron Eckhart.

Thier mission is to travel into the earth's core in a subterranean craft piloted by terranauts Major Rebecca "Beck" Childs and Commander Robert Iverson. Their mission is to travel to the earths core and detonate a nuclear device that will reacativate the core and save the world from sure destruction.
